Houghton Library is run by the PTO thanks to a great group of coordinators and volunteers.
We have a lot of new and exciting books on the shelves this fall and are excited to have students back in to check them out! Thanks to the success of last year’s Scholastic Book Fair, we were able to purchase over 300 new books from Scholastic! Volunteers have been hard at work updating the catalog, and making it easier for students to find books they love! To help protect these books, we have a few reminders to families about the caring of school library books:
Use a bookmark! Holding your page other ways, like leaving the book open, is hard on the spine!
Keep it away from pets and babies! They aren’t always respectful of books!
Keep it dry! Spills can not only damage pages, it can also cause mildew. If spills do happen, dry it out the best you can and leave us a note.
Let us know of any damage! Whether it happened at home, or came home that way, please leave a note and let us know of the damage so we can try to repair it.
Please note that students can not check out new books until they have returned their old ones. In the event of lost or irrepable damage, we ask that you replace the book from a vendor of your choice. Please contact houghtonlibrarian@gmail.com with questions.
Thank you for your support!

We are frequently asked if the library accepts donations of used books, and the answer is yes! However, we want to prevent our shelves from getting overcrowded. If you have a pile of books at home that you are interested in donating, please send us a picture of the titles by emailing houghtonlibrarian@gmail.com. We can take a look and see if they are something our collection needs! Thank you!
Celebrate your child’s upcoming birthday by donating a book to Houghton Library! This is a great new way to honor a birthday, with a book that can be enjoyed by all Houghton students for years to come!
Take a look at Houghton Library’s Amazon wishlist.
Order a book you think your student would like!
Be sure to put in your child’s name, age and birthday in the gift options.
The book will be sent directly to the library where it will get a nameplate acknowledging the donation and noting your child’s name and age.
Your student will be the first to check out the new book!
